What is a refractive error?

A refractive error is a very common eye disorder that leads to blurred vision. It occurs when the eye fails to focus images from the outside world. This can sometimes result in visual impairment.


What are the different types of refractive errors?

1. Myopia
   - Also known as nearsightedness.
   - Difficulty in seeing to see distant objects clearly.
   - Also known as farsightedness.
   - Difficulty in seeing close objects clearly.
   - Distorted vision resulting from an irregularly curved cornea.
   - Difficulty in reading or seeing at arm's length. It is different from other age-related disorders.

3. Astigmatism
4. Presbyopia


Can refractive errors be prevented?

Refractive errors, unfortunately, cannot be prevented. However, they can be diagnosed with an eye exam.


How are refractive errors treated?

Refractive errors are treated with corrective glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery.
