CLINICAL

1. SLIT LAMPS

High end Zeiss and Topcon slit lamps allow for detailed examination of the eye. Camera attachments allow for documentation of clinical finding.

2. AUTO REFRACTOMETERS AND NON-CONTACT TONOMETERS

Nidek Auto Refractometers allow for accurate and fast evaluation of the refractive status of the eye thus reducing the time needed for the optometric workup. Nidek Non-contact Tonometers measure the intraocular pressure of the eye without coming into contact with the eye. Not only is the measurement precise, but also done with minimal discomfort.

3. A SCANS

The Sonomed A Scan allows for accurate measurement of the axial length of the eyeball, thus accurately calculating the intraocular lens power to be implanted during cataract surgery. We have also installed the latest Alcon Immersion A Scan Biometry; which gives the most accurate measurements.

4. KERATOMETERS AND PACHYMETERS

Our clinic is equipped with Automated Nidek Keratometer which measures the curvature of the cornea. These measurements are useful in detecting keratoconus and other corneal curvature abnormalities. The Sonomed Pachymeter gauges the thickness of the cornea, helpful in accurately titrating intraocular pressure measurements.

5. ULTRASOUND B SCAN AND UBM

The Appaswamy B scan system helps detect pathologies of the posterior segment of the eye, when opaque media, such as cataract, obscures the view.

6. FUNDUS FLUORESCEIN ANGIOGRAPHY

Fundus Fluorescein Angiography is a test that uses special cameras to photograph the structures in the back of the eye. This test is very useful for locating the damage to the blood vessels that nourish the retina and, in turn, checking on the health of the retina itself. In this test a colored dye is injected into the arm of the patient and photographs of the retina, where the dye reaches through the circulation are then clicked using the Topcon TRC-50DX camera which provides high-resolution digital images.

7. GREEN LASERS

The clinic is equipped with Coherent and Nidek systems to perform laser photocoagulation for treatment of diabetic macular edema, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, retinopathy of prematurity, retinal holes and breaks and central serous retinopathy. The procedure is a painless outpatient one whereby a high intensity light beam is focused on the desired retinal area and a burn is produced. This coagulates leaky vessels or burns out ischemic or dead retina. Lasers can be performed using the slit lamp delivery system, indirect ophthalmoscope laser delivery or during retina surgeries using the endo-laser probe.

8. YAG LASERS

The Nd:YAG laser is used to treat posterior capsular opacificification, which can occur after cataract surgery. This is a painless and quick and performed as an outpatient procedure. The Nd:YAG laser can also be used to create a peripheral iridectomy which acts as a bypass for the normal drainage of aqueous in patients with narrow angle glaucoma.

9. OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

We have installed the Nidek RS 3000 OCT retina scan system and Zeiss Cirrus which allows for non-contact high resolution scans of the retina which helps detect diseases like cystoids macular edema and macular holes. The RNFL thickness measurement performed by these scans can help detect early glaucomatous damage before they are seen on visual field testing.

10. VISUAL FIELD TESTING

Visual field monitoring is a very important part of glaucoma management. We have the Octopus Field Analyzer that allows us to monitor visual fields efficiently, assess progression if any and change our mode of approach.

11. SCHEIMPFLUG IMAGING

We are the first hospital to introduce the Oculus Pentacam HR in Tamil Nadu. The PentacamĀ® provides us with precise diagnostic data on the entire anterior eye segment in a measurement time of under a second. With its brighter and optimized optics the PentacamĀ® HR offers brilliant image quality. Corneal irregularities as well as injuries, implantations and refractive interventions are made amazingly visible. Additional imaging modes such as the cornea fine scan serve to reveal intracorneal pathologies. The Pentacam provides optimal images for the detection of keratoconus as well as pre-LASIK evaluation.

12. NIDEK AL SCAN

Nine IOL calculation formulas are incorporated in the AL-Scan. Once measurement is completed, the IOL power is automatically calculated using its own measured data. This allows unparalleled accuracy in IOL power calculation.

13. SPECULAR MICROSCOPY

The Topcon SP 2000P specular microscope performs a sophisticated endothelial cell analysis. This is useful prior to cataract surgery to identify eyes with low cell counts.

14. AUTOMATED LENSOMETERS

The Nidek Automated Lensometers help in accurate and quick evaluation of spectacle lens powers.

15. INDIRECT OPHTHALMOSCOPY

Frigitronics, Welch Allyn and Keeler Indirect ophthalmoscopes help in evaluating retinal disorders

16. GONIOSCOPY,APPLANATION TONOMETRY

These are done with Volk Lenses and Haag Streit Applanation Tonometers and are indispensable for a glaucoma workup.
